Essilor was born from the merger of the French companies Essel and Silor in 1972.  So, its activities are strongly focused on research and development, with an annual budget of more than 200 million euros.

The French innovative group is at the origin of the Varilux, the first progressive lens that corrects presbyopia by giving the wearer a correction for all distance.

Within the group, the Instruments division of Essilor puts its expertise at the service of the various players in the field of optics and vision care.

It designs and manufactures innovative products for opticians, optometrists and ophthalmologists, covering thereby all activities, from the medical practice to the optical store: optical and vision care instruments (refraction, diagnosis and imaging), measurement, edging and assembly tools, and sales support.
